Program Overview

Among engineering specialties, several are projected to grow even faster than the 4-percent growth for engineers or the 6.5-percent growth for all occupations: biomedical engineers (23.1 percent), environmental engineers (12.4 percent), and civil engineers (8.4 percent). Athens 91³Ô¹ÏÍø College has four associate degree specialities: Electromechanical Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology, Electrical Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology, Environmental Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology and Civil Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology.

The program requires an internship or capstone project for all graduating students. Many companies and organizations visit our department on a regular basis and are looking for suitable applicants. The Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology program is heavily based on laboratory instruction, where students will gain knowledge of the latest technology and uses for present job outlook opportunities. Our graduates have many opportunities in the northeast Georgia region. Presently the manufacturing of automotive equipment has been trending towards opportunites in modern electric vehicle technology and automotive specialty products including: EV batteries, automotive AC compressors, electronic steering, automotive superchargers, specialty ignition parts and other manufacturing processes. Automation is still a high commodity for companies that need programming capabilities along with engineering design.

Earning potential for associate degree graduates can expect $45K to $65K for starting salaries. Many engineering firms that specialize in environmental or civil engineering design are in need of our students in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. With the growth of the metropolitan area and the need for new infrastructure, companies are needing new engineering graduates.

Specific Facility, Tools Or Educational Tools Available

Electromechanical and Electrical Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology department includes modern “programmable logic controllers”, PLC’s including Allen-Bradley and Siemens. Robotic instruction includes laboratory instruction on Fanuc and KUKA robots. The mechanical laboratory uses CNC “computer numerical control” equipment including Tormach and Grizzly CNC machines. Environmental and Civil Engineering 91³Ô¹ÏÍønology utilizes CAD “computer aided design” with AutoDesk software and GIS “geographical information systems” using ArcView software. Surveying equipment and instruction uses Leica surveying total stations.
